Morro Rock – Morro rock is probably the biggest landmark in Morro bay. You can see it no matter where you are in morro bay. Sailors refer to it as the Gibraltar of the Pacific as it is used by them for maritime navigation.  Morro rock was formed due to volcanic activity and if you love to climb mountains then you would be disappointed to know that Morro Rock is off limits. It is a protected area and can be accessed only at its base. It serves as a natural habitat for many endangered species such as the Peregrine Falcon.
It is not wise to take a risk and try to climb it as the rocks are loose and you could find yourself stepping on a lose rock or in the path or a rolling boulder. The massive rock is connected to the main land by a causeway. Some people say it is called Morro because it is a Spanish word for a pebble. In that case Morro rock is one giant pebble.

State Museum Park of Natural History – The museum of natural history is the only one of its kind. It opened in 1962 and witnesses more than 50,000 footfalls each year. Most of the visitors are children who can indulge in a number of activities which include trekking and hiking. The exhibits here teach visitors about the ecology of Morro bay.
You can build a sand dune and also use the Hydrologic cycle here.

Morro Bay Harbor – Morro rock was once surrounded by water on all sides. The U.S Army Corp of Engineers created a breakwater and connected Morro rock to Morro bay. Morro bay harbor is used by small fishing vessels. It is considered a dangerous harbor for large ships due to the shallow water and the sea bed strewn with jagged rocks which were used to create the backwater.

There are several maritime activities that you can indulge in at Morro bay Harbor. You could rent a yacht and go fishing or just relax on the shore and fish. Morro bay is a protected area and looks after the marine life in the ocean.
